East Sussex Open at Towner 2012

Sheila Hay is a ceramic artist who pushes the boundaries of craft and art. Her work has great respect for the traditional craft of ceramics but uses the materials in innovative and unexpected ways. Shoot draws on many influences, from Islamic geometry to a study of botany and ideas of abundance. By using a handmade process to understand and mirror the slow growth of natural form Hay invotes us to contemplate the drama of scale and the predetermined potential of new life.
